Review:
I recently joined NetGalley in hopes of starting this journey as a novice reviewer. As I was looking through titles that were available to request, I came across I Want Your Family. Instantly the title of this book grabbed my attention. This book follows two characters narrating their stories. Sadie, who is a wife and mother of two, definitely has a purchasing problem which is how we are introduced to the other main character, Luna. She is a delivery driver who ends up bringing all of Sadie's packages to her basically every day. Luna uses this opportunity to take advantage and I can only imagine every time she stops by Sadie's home she is thinking, I want your family.
I thought that the characters of this story are very well fleshed out. Not only do we get a good look into the lives of each of our characters, we can see the motives and logic behind each of their actions. I felt that for the most part even when I didn’t agree with a character’s actions, I could at least understand why they were doing the action in question. Where I felt let down was the beginning of the book. To be honest the writing in the beginning didn’t feel as strong as it did toward the middle of the book. It didn’t start to pick up until we got more into Sadie and her parents’ part of the story. Also I unfortunately felt completely let down by the ending. As I approached the final chapters of the book, I had a feeling creep up that the story was going to feel incomplete to me and that is exactly what happened.
I did find this book a fun, easy read, but I don’t think it’s for everyone. If it sounds like the type of book you’d enjoy, I think you will at least find it entertaining, but outside of mystery/thriller seekers, you may have a harder time enjoying this book.
